SEFT – The Journey of Digital Learning

SEFT - THE JOURNEY OF DIGITAL LEARNING

It was the time amidst the pandemic and just like everyone else I was figuring out my next step while also re-connecting with my hometown, Goa again. Gathered around with a bunch of past albums, I can’t help reminiscing my memories of when I first started as a fashion designer in the industry. It was a proud moment for me and my sister, Riddhi launching our eponymous label ‘mapxencaRS’ and most of all getting all the love and acceptance in the industry, winning in the GenNext category in Lakmé Fashion Week 2010. As the time grew so did our work and association with various fashion weeks like India beach fashion week, Dubai fashion week, Indian premier London fashion week, etc. While also dressing celebrities like Kareena Kapoor, Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Priyanka Chopra, Aalia Bhatt, Madhuri Dixit, Sonam Kapoor, Urvashi Rautela, etc. added to our bucket of achievements.

I always loved sharing my experience and knowledge with others and so I taught around 15,000 students across various premium fashion colleges across the country. I observed that though the fashion industry was growing competitively, the fashion education in India is still stuck to its old way of teaching, not actually making the students industry-ready. But one thing that always remained with me was passing down my learnings to everyone who dreams of landing in the fashion industry just like I once dared, even though I came from an engineering background. So, why can't I reach out to people from where I'm sitting right now?!

And that’s how SEFT was born in June 2020.
Though I knew I was taking a big leap by becoming one of the first digital fashion learning platforms in India (which can sometimes seem challenging), it has been around 2 years and 1000+ students have already seen the change digitization in learning can bring. From one-on-one sessions to interacting live with the mentors, it made all the difference that a traditional curriculum lacked.
I’ve seen 9-year-olds, students, and even women in their late 40s and 50s stepping up to learn fashion and nothing can make me more proud than hearing them say how their long-lost dream is turning into a real passion. The diversity an online platform can bring is something even I’m wrapping my head around! Seeing women from different walks of life and professions- young fashion students, boutique owners, engineers, homemakers, etc. I could make out how many bury their desires just because they weren’t allowed to pursue a career in a creative field or simply because they couldn’t afford the high-end fee a fashion college demands.
Hoping to change these narratives around creativity and learning, SEFT is turning into a global phenomenon with students joining us from the UK, Canada, and even USA and Philippines. We’re also anticipating making SEFT a full-blown fashion platform for futuristic learning.
